New K-beauty Ingredient Enhances Skin Absorption Rate by 60 Times
A cosmetic ingredient development company from South Korea, has developed Altum Peptide™. According to the experimental results of the Korean Institute of Dermatology, a third-party specialized testing institution, Altum Peptide™ has a 60 times higher skin penetration rate compared to normal peptides.
Improves Skin Elasticity
To start, the comparative test of skin absorption between the Altum-tripeptide and the Tripeptide using Micropig skin. Both were labeled with a fluorescent substance (Fluorescein5(6)-isothiocyanate; FITC). Using Fluorescence Microplate Reader System, Fluorescence intensity was quantitatively analyzed and compared to evaluate skin absorption.
As a result of analyzing the fluorescence intensity (RFU) from 0 hours to 4 hours, the Altum tripeptide showed 75,109,584.88 (RFU) and Tripeptide showed 1,235,775.61 (RFU). Altum-tripeptide absorption rate was 60.78 times higher than Tripeptide.
Second, Altum peptide™ was compared to see the improvement on: elasticity layering effect, facial cheek lifting, skin density, skin texture, fine and thick skin wrinkles on each layer of skin (1.0mm/3.0mm).
- Dermal torque meter was used to see the elasticity layering effect before and after using the test substance
- ANTERA 3D was used to see the improvement on facial cheek lifting, skin texture fine and deep wrinkles
- DUB-Skin scanner was used measure skin density before and after the application of test substance
Results- Increase in Skin Density
The results of the tests showed improvement on skin, from day 1 to 4 weeks and 6 weeks were analyzed. As the measured value increases compare to before the use of the test substance, it means that there is a skin elasticity layering effect. As the result elasticity showed 9.83% increase.
The depressed volume of the skin showed 36.80% decrease on cheek lifting, the rough skin texture showed decreasing by 8.53%, and the measured values for deep and fine wrinkles were decreasing, showed improvement by 17.30% and 13.10%.
The skin density was analyzed as a value to measure the improvement on use of the test substance, and the analysis range corresponds to the upper part of the subcutaneous fat layer from just below the epidermis. Skin density showed 15.88% increase after 6 weeks of use.
Delivers Active Ingredient Beyond Skin Barrier
Altum Peptide™ is a meticulous combination of microscopic ocean sponge vehicles and peptides to promote healthy skin by focusing on penetration into the epidermis.
Once the micro vehicle penetrates the skin and delivers the peptides down to the epidermis, glutathione in the body will release the peptides from the vehicle by breaking the chemical attachment. After the vehicle is discharged out of the skin according to the keratin elimination cycle, and the peptide stays in the skin, supplying nutrients to fibroblasts, and promoting collagen production.
Altum peptide™ has a solid powder form and high stability, so it can be used in combination with most basic cosmetics. In other words, the range of application in cosmetic formulations is wide. In addition, as a platform technology, they are developing altumized products combining not only peptide but also various active ingredients that are currently widely used, such as vitamin C, collagen, E.G.F, T.G.F., and so on.
Considering the clarity of the mechanism and the high absorption data supporting it, SR Biotek’s Altum peptide™ appears to be the definitive alternative method of delivering active ingredient beyond the skin barrier.
The founder of SR Biotek, Professor Dr. Song has studied chemistry and biology for 30 years. His concentration of research has been the ability to deliver active ingredients to deeper through the skin barrier. After more than 10 years of research, he has developed Altum peptide™; Altum, meaning “deep” in Latin.
“The core technology of Altum peptide™ is the technology that binds and separates the vehicle and the active ingredient in the most efficient way under specific condition. Recently, safety and efficacy tests were successfully completed in Korea and the United States and expected to be released worldwide in July this year,” said Song.
